Charges of Plagiarism Taint Congressional Race

Republican congressional candidate Monte Shaw Tuesday called on Democrat Staci Appel to better explain how policy positions found on an Illinois congressional candidate's website found its way to Appel's website.

The issue was first reported by the Quad City Times Monday involving the website of Illinois Democrat Ann Callis

Appel campaign manager Ben Miller told the Times  the positions taken from the Callis website were intended to be temporary place holders and were not intended for the public.

He says when the campaign learned of the error it took down the material and in fact that part of the website was off line for a few hours.

Republican Monte Shaw called on Appel to further explain the snafu.

Shaw is one of six Republicans vying for their party's nomination and the right to challenge Appel in November for the seat now held by Republican Tom Latham, who has decided not to seek another term in office.
