After two reported sightings of a mountain lion in the Metro, officials with the Department of Natural Resources say they haven't confirmed the sighting, but advise you to be vigilant.
DNR Wildlife Bologist Vince Evelsizer says, "I think they should be alert about what was seen. I don't know if it is time to get concerned about it, other than to just be alert and to pay attention to what's going on. We don't know yet if it was a mountain lion or not, but it's worth checking into."
Des Moines police were called to the 4200 block of Hubbel for a mountain lion sighting on Monday, followed by Wednesday's sighting near the Clay Elementary School.
Evelsizer says the heat could also be affecting the mountain lion's behavior, keeping it hidden under trees and brush looking for a change in temperatures.
Officials say to call the DNR or local law enforcement if you think you see the animal.
