More Layoffs for Iowa National Guard

More layoffs have been scheduled for the Iowa National Guard due to the Federal Government shutdown.

Beginning October 18th, an additional 95 state employees will be laid off for up to 30 days.

Currently more than 1000 full time Federal Technicians will remain furloughed until the shut down is resoved.

Colonel Greg Hapgood says its a challenging time, "We are, as an organization, very much engaged with Washington DC about what we can and can't do. Particularly October is a very heavy training month in the Iowa National Guard as it is the first month of the new training year, so this is certainly a challenging series of events, but we're doing the very best we can."

Approximately 1000 full time employees remain on duty for the Iowa National Guard, including active and reserve guard.
