The Grand Avenue Bridge construction site is having a "big day" Thursday as major components of the main bridge are starting to come together. Des Moines City Engineer, Jeb Brewer says, thanks to Mother Nature, the crew has had the opportunity to move things along and make quite a bit of progress. With the re-adjusted deadline of November 29th nearing, Brewer says contractors plan on working late into the evenings, using mobile construction lights.
Brewer says it's a massive operation, as several local companies are working together to transfer, batching and pouring over 1380 yards of concrete. He says drivers may see some road delays on 63rd Street, due to the large number of cement trucks driving through and around the construction site.
